Section Manager duties include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Responsible for the achievement of results relating to safety, quality, cost and delivery and for the development and maintenance of a safe, well trained, highly motivated workforce.
  • Directly supervises Shift Managers. Indirectly supervises the hourly and salaried employees that report to these Managers.
  • Strives to develop and maintain a lean culture with the utilization of lean tools and the creation of a visual workplace. Identifies, plans and executes improvement activities.
  • Drives the use of 3 panels and GPMS for tracking improvement activities.
  • Uses the EtQ system to close corrective actions promptly and effectively. Promotes and adheres to correct document control procedures.
  • Reviews daily production schedules and reports, daily scrap reports, and maintenance work performed.  Takes corrective action to reduce scrap.  Strives to increase machine utilization and productivity per hours worked. Insures all employees‑observe safety regulations.
  • Over inspects and observes operation to insure conformance to specification.
  • Reviews shift data sheets.
  • Initiates corrective action and makes restrictions of machinery and materials.
  • Recommends disciplinary action or employee dismissal. Insures that employees comply with existing policies and procedures.  Reviews progress of employees.
  • Renders first aid in case of accident.  Prepares report in the event of employee accidents, initiates fire report. Investigates the cause and recommends corrective action to the Business Unit Manager. Responsible for follow up actions where necessary.
  • Reviews correspondence and takes appropriate action.
  • Reviews and acts upon verbal and written instructions from the Business Unit Manager concerning work conditions, problems, etc and action to be taken.
  • Writes Instructions to Shift Manager concerning work conditions, problems, etc and accomplishments. Consults with supervision concerning areas within the operation requiring attention.
  • Attends periodic quality, scrap and production meetings. Takes recommended corrective action where possible to obtain a more favorable production quality level.
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this job description.  Performs other related functions.
  • Develops / Implements training plans and programs for all employees in areas of responsibility
  • Reviews time cards for accuracy and completeness
  • Assists in the interviewing process to insure qualified candidates are placed within department
  • Supervises the training of new employees.  Orients them to company policies, procedures and work practices
  • Monitors / recommends / administers disciplinary action, attendance meetings or employee dismissal
  • Review department metrics to insure goals are being met
  • Review department personnel requirements and adjust as necessary to meet production requirements
  • Participates on ongoing efforts toward controlling, reducing and avoiding costs
  • Holds safety meeting monthly according to current plant policies.  Instills an overall safety awareness mentality among the direct reports and develops meaningful, long-range safety improvement programs
  • Maintains and implement continuous improvement projects and initiatives within the department
  • Facilitate 5S Journey to Success

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
